Environmental Compliance Specialist I

The Environmental Compliance Specialist I is an entry-level position that will learn to perform duties in the field of environmental regulatory compliance and, with experience, perform some duties independently. The incumbent in this position will be an air pollution field inspector and will ensure compliance with air pollution requirements at regulated facilities.

 

This position involves the following working conditions:

 

  • Exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings.
  • The inspector may be exposed to foul odors and/or dusty, noisy, and hot conditions.
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions which may result in injury.
  • Inspections at steam boilers potentially expose the inspector to high pressure steam or extremely hot water.
  • Physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders etc.
  • Ladders may be on gasoline storage tanks, baghouses, or during stack testing when access to the room may be necessary.
  • Required use of protective equipment—such as goggles, gloves, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, hard hats and masks—during site visits when required.

 

The incumbent will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you hold an out-of-state driver’s license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the issuing state’s  Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of hire. All individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record to operate a State vehicle.
